Overheard OnBoard 3/4/10

On the most packed RTA bus I've ever had the privilege of riding, after the March Forth rally:
"Nah man, the bus is tight. I'd rather not drive."
"Drive to where?"
"I guess in general."

Just wondering what you consider packed.

I rode many different types of transit in San Francisco all day, late evening and the OWL service but the absolutely most packed in like sardines in a can -- only tighter -- was the Muni Metro M-Oceanview line of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Municipal Transit Agency.

I rode all those lines including the J-Church that serves folks in SF from the Embarcadero to the Noe Valley and Balboa Park neighborhoods;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J_Church, the K-Ingleside, and the M-Oceanview, which goes from goes across SF from the bottom corner near the Ocean and Daly City to the top corner near the Bay Bridge to Oakland. I rode every type of transit in SF.

OFF POINT:

Here is a map of the OWL map that shows Muni bus routes that operate overnight (e.g. from 1:00 to 5:00 a.m.) seven nights a week. http://transit.511.org/static/providers/maps/SF_123200993221.pdf As I worked very late sometimes and lived in different areas of SF, and also took the service back from the American Indian Film Festival at times The J-Church used to have an OWL service which was deleted likely more than 10 or 20 years ago.

K-
I haven't ridden the M-Oceanview (but have taken the N-Judah, J-Church and L-Taraval), but when I say "packed" I mean crush load plus, to the point where exiting passengers had to shove their way through bodies to get to the door. I'd compare it to my experience on the 30-Stockton through Chinatown.

This is, of course, an unusual occurrence for RTA. The passengers were mostly students heading back to UCR after the rally, and the rally was huge. Still, it was good to see folks riding, including two first-timers (that I know of).
